Ceylon Yellow Sapphires

Ceylon yellow sapphires boasts some of the most intense yellows in the world. Mostly found in the Rathnapura region yellow sapphires in my opinion are some of the most facinating sapphires there is.

In Sri Lanka we call yellow sapphire PUSHPARAGA . Also, "''PUKHRAJ'' is a word used for yellow sapphires.

I'm not going go in to detail about the chemical composition of yellow sapphires since its just a click away in google. But as per the color variations, there are yellow tones from pale yellow, where there is only a yellow tint and then there are intense golden and vivid yellows.

The market demand is, yes you guessed it right, are for the golden yellows and vivid yellows.

You just really have to see a golden yellow or vivid yellow in your hand to appreciate how beautiful those colors are.

Although there are many Ceylon Yellow Sapphires, a yellow sapphire with a loupe clean clarity is very rare. As a matter of fact, with what I got to experience, natural feather inclusion are the most common in yellow sapphires. Also it is one of the most difficult gemstone in its raw format to inspect feather inclusion. Some gems do not show feather inclusions even at close inspection with a loupe. I have had many times where i got disappointed when it was time to cutting yellow sapphires. But with all that I gained a lot of knowledge about Yellow sapphires.

Can you heat treat yellow sapphires?

Yes you can. But not all yellow sapphires can be heat treated. There's a certain types of yellow sapphires that can be heated to enhance the color.
